2nd May 2021: Taiwan has dispatched its first batch of COVID-19 related Aid to India in a bid to help the nation fight back a second wave that has assumed staggering proportions.
Relief consignments – comprising 150 oxygen concentrators and 500 oxygen cylinders – left Taiwan on a China Airlines freighter on the morning of 2 May 2021 (Sunday), and is slated to be received by India's Red Cross, as per Taiwan's Foreign Ministry.
Taiwan’s humanitarian gesture aligns with similar outpourings that have been coming in from all over the world. Taiwanese authorities have insinuated that this could be the first of more aid that’s on its way.
"These oxygen concentrators & cylinders are love from Taiwan. More help for our friends in India is on the way. India Stay Strong!" Foreign Minister Joseph Wu tweeted.
Oxygen concentrators are a critical cog in the treatment of COVID-19 cases at the moment. They work by reducing the percentage of nitrogen in the air and creating an oxygen-enriched air supply for the patient.
The Aid is reflective of India’s warm relations with Taiwan, with the two countries sharing close economic and cultural connections.
