The Jharkhand cabinet has approved a new healthcare scheme to benefit individuals excluded from the Centre's Ayushman Bharat Yojana. This initiative, named the Mukhya Mantri Abua Swasth Suraksha Yojana, is set to benefit 33.44 lakh people, offering a health cover of Rs 15 lakh per family per year.
The approval was granted during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren.
Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel announced that beneficiaries will receive a card under the new scheme.
Currently, around 28 lakh people in Jharkhand benefit from the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family per year. Initially, the 33.44 lakh people now covered by the new scheme were excluded from Ayushman Bharat. The previous BJP-led state government had decided to include these individuals by funding their premiums from state resources.
Under the new state scheme, the coverage has been significantly increased to Rs 15 lakh per family per year, tripling the coverage offered by Ayushman Bharat.
