Speaking at the joint session of Parliament, she also highlighted the rapid progress in establishing 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country.
Murmu emphasized that the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) currently provides free health services to 55 crore beneficiaries.
"The government is taking another significant step in this area. Now, all elderly citizens above 70 years of age will also be covered and benefit from free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana," President Murmu stated.
The AB-PMJAY, recognized as the world's largest publicly funded health insurance scheme, aims to offer health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to 12 crore families.
Under the Hospital Empanelment and Management (HEM) guidelines, State Health Agencies (SHAs) are tasked with the responsibility of empaneling hospitals to participate in the AB-PMJAY scheme.
